Blog Tour of Timeless Endings by Alexandra Folly -- REVIEW

May 27, 2015

I need to share with everyone that I have rather high standards when it comes to stories that go around the mafia or the mob because of a certain trilogy I got obsessed with. Yeah I'm talking about you Ruthless People. So when I read the blurb of Timeless Endings I admit that I got a wee bit nervous because of its subject matter. But I will share my verdict with you guys in a little while.

Blog Tour of Nowhere but Here by Katie McGarry -- REVIEW

May 26, 2015

I finished reading Nowhere But Here a few weeks ago. On second thought, it may actually have been a month or so ago. Anyway, I've read a few MC books in the past and more often than not I didn't like it too much. The love story and the passion I liked, but the lifestyle...I guess I just didn't find it too appealing. Or maybe I found the way the authors wrote it a bit pretentious? I can't explain it properly since I honestly can't even understand why I don't find it too appealing. Back to my original point; so you'd understand why I was a tad hesitant on doing a review of the book. But then I thought, "It's Katie McGarry, I'm sure she won't disappoint." So what happened when I read it?

Title: Nowhere But Here (Thunder Road #1)
Author: Katie McGarry
Publisher: Harlequin Teen
Publication Date: May 26, 2015
Source: ARC Lent by Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:
An unforgettable new series from acclaimed author Katie McGarry about taking risks, opening your heart and ending up in a place you never imagined possible.

Seventeen-year-old Emily likes her life the way it is: doting parents, good friends, good school in a safe neighborhood. Sure, she's curious about her biological father—the one who chose life in a motorcycle club, the Reign of Terror, over being a parent—but that doesn't mean she wants to be a part of his world. But when a reluctant visit turns to an extended summer vacation among relatives she never knew she had, one thing becomes clear: nothing is what it seems. Not the club, not her secret-keeping father and not Oz, a guy with suck-me-in blue eyes who can help her understand them both.

Oz wants one thing: to join the Reign of Terror. They're the good guys. They protect people. They're…family. And while Emily—the gorgeous and sheltered daughter of the club's most respected member—is in town, he's gonna prove it to her. So when her father asks him to keep her safe from a rival club with a score to settle, Oz knows it's his shot at his dream. What he doesn't count on is that Emily just might turn that dream upside down.

No one wants them to be together. But sometimes the right person is the one you least expect, and the road you fear the most is the one that leads you home.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Emily is a sheltered, close-minded, and quite selfish teenage girl. She has her life planned-out, but she hasn't actually lived yet. Change is not something she's a fan of, and she doesn't mind hurting other people as long as she can go back to her comfortable life. But then she starts changing.

Oz has known what he wanted ever since he was a kid, and he's not going to let anything -- or anyone -- get in the way of it. He's loyal, dedicated, and trust-worthy...most of the time. He falls for Emily even though he wasn't supposed to, and that gets him in a lot of trouble.

TO LOVE:
The story itself is kind of cliche...on the surface, but it's actually much deeper than what one would normally expect. There's drama, romance, a little action, some mystery, an abundance of family drama, harsh words are thrown around, and there is a lot of pent-up sexual tension. The way Katie McGarry described the lifestyle of a motorcycle club is believable; there are loads of booze and women (with undergarments on the wall as evidence), the old ladies are submissive and don't ask questions, and the brotherhood is more important than anything and everybody else. I didn't exactly like the ideology of it, and I don't really have any clear idea how things really goes in an organization of such, but I liked how they appeared "true to the patch".

Oh, I almost forgot (pfft! As if I'm really going to forget) about Oz. I loved him. He grew a lot in the book, found himself, and realized what's been in front of him all along. The fact that he's brutally honest while looking the way he does doesn't hurt either.

TO BLEH:
The thing, or rather the person, that turned me off the most is Emily. Yep. I hated how much of a snob she was more than halfway through the book, how angsty she was towards her father who was obviously trying to do everything to make her happy (I'll explain more about why I detested this in a while), and how she can go from hot one minute and cold the next. Okay let's go back to Emily's daddy issues: first of all, she's still fortunate that her father is doing everything he can to see her and protect her. He tries his best to get to know her and catch up on her life. But nooooooo, *eye roll* she has to be the way she is. I mean, is it because she's a teenager? Geez! I'm speaking from personal experience here, and let me tell you that I was NOT like that nor would I say "no" to the chance she got.

SUMMARY:
Overall I really liked Nowhere but Here in spite of my utter annoyance with Emily's attitude, and I give it 4 stars. I'm looking forward to reading the following installments actually, since the ending to this book left me with a lot of questions.

Blog Tour of Beach Man by Annabel Foxx -- REVIEW

May 25, 2015

When I read the blurb of Beach Man, my interest was instantly piqued. I normally don't make assumptions about how much I'll like (or dislike) a book because I think it's unfair for me and the author -- but mostly me *shrugs* -- if the story didn't measure up to my expectations. So I tried to "forget" that my reading copy is waiting patiently in my e-reader, until I HAD to read it, which was a couple of days ago. Did I like it or did I not? Was the synopsis misleading? Was the story line and the characters engaging? You'll find out in a little bit.

Blog Tour of Bronze Fox by Diana Green -- REVIEW

May 23, 2015

For some reason, I imagined our male lead doing a Jacob Black-like (from Twilight) transformation. I don't know why I thought that though, the title is Bronze Fox and not Bronze Werewolf. An error of judgement on my part, hence I would try to make my disappointment for the lack of pizaz in the shifting department NOT affect my review.

Title: Bronze Fox (Rifters #1)
Author:  Diana Green
Genre: Fantasy Romance
Publication Date: April 9, 2015
Source: ARC Given by Author and Tour Organizer

SYNOPSIS:
Tobias is a fox-shifter, stolen in childhood from his home-world.
Now he works as an agent for the secretive and powerful sentinels, trying to bring an end to the interworld slave trade.

Etty is a street-smart spitfire from the wrong side of the tracks. She harbors untrained magical abilities and a deep longing for a better life. Can she channel these into working as Tobias’ assistant?

Will they survive a life-changing mission where love and danger are only a heartbeat away, and the fate of rift worlds hangs in the balance?

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Tobias Shelton is a strong, intelligent, and compassionate gentleman. Okay, so he's a fox-shifter, but a gentleman nonetheless. He's great at what he does and he finds our heroine is the perfect partner for him. In maybe more ways than one.

Henrietta "Etty" Sikes is street-smart, has a real talent for impersonating, and can never be mistaken for a weakling. She wants to know more about the life she was thrust into, and she wishes to do it alongside the person she trust the most -- Tobias.

TO LOVE:
I loved the characters most. No doubt about it. They're such interesting people, both Tobias and Etty, that it's them you'll be instantly drawn to, more than the story itself actually. The complexity and simplicity that is balanced in both of them is impressive and makes for a truly engaging read. Tobias initially comes off as a thief-for-hire, but then we find out that he's doing quite well in the financial department, and then we know he also came from a rough background. Meanwhile, Etty pretends to be a male just so she can provide for her father, she hides the fact that she can do magic, comes off really strong with such a foul mouth, but she can then transform to any kind of human being. What do I mean by that? Is she a shifter to? You'll have to read the book to find out. *grins*

The romance between the two lead characters was not instant unlike most shifting novels. For some reason when you're part-animal it's like you have to brand a person as yours immediately. So I liked that the author didn't do that here. The love story wasn't slow as well, it was just set at a right and believeable pace.

TO BLEH:
I honestly found myself having a hard time following the places, names, and terms mentioned. I feel like, as a reader, I wasn't properly prepared to be thrust in their world. At the first few pages, I thought the scene was set in modern time and in the U.S. Apparently I was wrong on both accounts when the scene changed to one with "Henry" driving a carriage. I was so taken aback by it that I haf to re-read the beginning just so I can "get it right". I'm not sure if it is just me, but I guess a better setting description would be great. Maybe a heading like, "London, 1920". Something of that sort.

SUMMARY:
The real reason I got into this story is solely because of Tobias and Etty. The story didn't appeal to me much unfortunately, but it was NOT bad. I give Bronze Fox 3.5 stars, and I will most probably continue to read the upcoming parts of the series.

Blog Tour of Desire Me Now by Tiffany Clare -- REVIEW

May 22, 2015

I have never been a fan of historical romance novels. I've always found them a tad boring and stiff for my taste. Initially, I wasn't quite sure if I should do a review for Desire Me Now, because like I said, I don't really like this genre. But by impulse, I signed up for this tour anyway; whether it's to expand my horizon, get rid of bad assumptions, or just because I found the cover intriguing. Whatever it is, I am grateful for it. I adored this book, because it wasn't at all what I expected! Let me explain further...

Blog Tour of Stages &Thieves by Danielle-Claude Ngontang Mba -- REVIEW

May 21, 2015

When I was asked to review Stages & Thieves honestly I was a bit apprehensive. I found the series very interesting as a whole, but individually, I found the first couple of books lacking. But I was curious with how the 4th book ended, and I wanted to know what happened to Vincent. So I decided, what the heck. Good thing I listened to the inquisitive voice in my head.

MTM Day 17: REVIEW of Driven by Love by Marian Tee

May 20, 2015

Heart Racer, book 1 of the Heart Racer series, ended on a cliffhanger, and a sad one at that. If you haven't read said book yet, this review will give away some things. If you don't mind it though, then great! Read on.  So malibitch barbie was basically the  reason why Leandro and Bobby's relationship crumbled to nothing, leaving them extremely hurt with one of them being remorseful. I'll let you guess which is which.

Title: Driven by Love (Heart Racer #2)
Author: Marian Tee
Publication Date: March 28, 2014
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Source: Bought

SYNOPSIS:
One year has passed since Leandro Christopoulos and Bobby Granger have last seen each other. Unhealed wounds have forced them to change, but one thing remains the same – the explosive chemistry between them.

Leandro is determined to recapture Bobby’s heart, but making her fall in love with him again may be impossible when he finds out that she already belongs to another man…and he also happens to be Leandro’s greatest rival.

An ordinary man would have given up in face of Bobby’s aversion, but not Leandro. Bobby is the only woman Leandro will ever love – and if blackmail is the only way to have her back in his life…then so be it.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Leandro Christopoulos is now a better guy, thanks to a slice of humble pie he was handed. He now knows for sure that he loves our heroine and will do everything in his power to have her back.

Bobby Granger is even more snarky and borderline bitch-y. She played games with Leandro, ones that she shouldn't have done no matter how hurt she was.

TO LOVE:
The tables have turned, and the tune has changed. Everyone who's read the first installment in this series knows how much Bobby has been hurt. But, with the things she did and said to Leandro, she lost me on her side. So what did I love about this book? Leandro. His character grew to be a more loveable man. The things he did and had to endure just to have Bobby back in his life makes women all over the world want to be her.

The dialogue was entertaining and the banter they have is really funny. Their frustration which each other, all the pent up tension, and the love they both feel comes out in very interesting moments, which I'm more than happy to read and enjoy. Another thing, or reason rather, why I adored this book comes in the form of a good-looking and charming man named Sebastian. He helped Granger let go of her bitchiness for a few seconds and made her realize that she still truly loves Leandro, and that she has to move past the -- well, past -- in order for them to have a happily-ever-after.

TO BLEH:
Bobby was just a tad too much in this installment. I won't explain any further since what I mean is already pretty obvious in my earlier statements. So I'll just leave it at that.

SUMMARY:
Another 4 stars for Driven by Love by no other than New York Times and USA Today best selling author Marian Tee. I would recommend that this be read, especially since we'll be continuing on to a new pair in Swish, the third installment in this series. Let me tell you, the road up ahead will be full of pain, heartbreak, love, and just pure AMAZINGNESS.

Blog Tour of Home Sweet Home: A Sweet, Texas Novella by Candis Terry -- REVIEW

May 19, 2015

Before I started reading Home Sweet Home, I had an expectation of how the story will go about. War survivors who come back broken usually deal with lots of emotional and mental stress, and I figured that PTSD or survivor's guilt would be playing a major role in this book. Was I right? You'll know in a bit.

EXCERPT:
“I don’t think I should sleep in your bed tonight.”

“You don’t think you should, huh?” His tone is condescending.

That only pisses me off more.

“What? You thought after the way you were all warm with me, I’d melt in your arms. Let you take me to bed and what? Fuck my brains out?”

“No darlin’. I was expecting we eat first, and then fuck. Then, fuck some more.” He has that devious look in his eyes as he sweeps his gaze over my body from head to toe. So not happening buster.

“Well sorry, but you expected way too much.”

I push past him into the room. Pulling out a pair of sweats and a tee-shirt, I sit my clothes on the bed. I even find some granny panties. I’m not going to dress up for him. Not tonight. Not ever again, if we don’t at least talk it out as a couple.

“Annabelle.” He’s frustrated now. His voice has gone quiet, but it still packs the same power it always does when he speaks. Dark. Dangerous. Delicious.
I’m so screwed.

Only if I give in.

"I just got you home. I don’t want to fight.”

“I don’t want to fight either, I want to talk.”

I step into my panties and sweats, pull my tee over my head, and pull my brush through my now curly hair. Jackson stands in the doorway watching.

“Anna, just because you throw on sweats and a wrinkly tee doesn’t mean I don’t want you. I’ll always want you.”

MTM Day 16: REVIEW of Heart Racer by Marian Tee

May 18, 2015

I can't remember when I read this book exactly, but I do remember being quite excited about it because hello? New Marian Tee series? I honestly didn't know what I should expect before I started reading it. I know that the male lead is cocky and a man-whore. I also know that the female lead is a curvy woman (saw it on the BBW boxed set) who has quite a sharp tongue and a bad taste in fashion. But I really didn't know where the story will go and how the drama would unfold, because with Marian Tee's books, you know that drama will happen.

Title: Heart Racer (Heart Racer #1)
Author: Marian Tee
Publication Date: February 17, 2014
Published by: Jaded Speck Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Romance
Source: Bought

SYNOPSIS:
With the elections coming up and his father wanting a seat in Parliament, Leandro Christopoulos needed to reinvent his public image from playboy underground motor racer to boring upright role model.

The solution: Bobby Granger. Bobby, which was short for Roberta, supposedly the smartest girl in school and recently voted as Young Philanthropist of the Year.

Unfortunately, she was not his type - snarky, old-fashioned, bookish, and most importantly of all – the kind who needed to be in love before going to bed with a guy.

High maintenance was his first thought. Find another girl was what his initial instincts told him. But then Leandro accidentally saw her naked, and he knew he was just going to have to lie about falling in love with her.

CHARACTER BACKGROUND:
Leandro Christopoulos believes that he's God's gift to women. He thinks he can be a jackass just because he's good-looking, rich, and every woman wants him. He's TOO arrogant and selfish that he lied to our heorine just to get what he wanted.

Roberta "Bobby" Granger is a smart and curvy woman who has a blade-like tongue and a passion for wearing drab clothes. She doesn't let Leandro push her around, but she so easily fell for his charms and his lies...which didn't end too well for her.

TO LOVE:
Bobby has a don't-bullshit-me attitude, which I totally dig. First encounter she has with Leandro and they're immediately throwing insult after insult at one another. She's not intimidated by -- nor does she care about -- his wealth and power. She heeds no mind to such trivial things like what she's going to wear, who she's seen with, and what she can do to be noticed by guys. She's been traumatized by a real crappy prank malibitch barbie played on her before, and it affected her capability of trusting men...especially ones who seem to good to be true.

I loved how short this is and how it ended on a cliffhanger. I know, I know, I'm probably the only person who enjoys such a thing. If it makes you feel any better (which I don't think it will), I DON'T like being left high and dry like that, but it just so happened that I already have the next book so I know I don't really have to wait that long. The effect the cliffhanger had on me was just for added drama. And I like my drama, thanks very much.

The chemistry and the hotness this book has is great. Leandro was also quite dominant in the bedroom if memory serves, and I find that awe -- wait for it -- some. I really liked it.

TO BLEH:
This is my first exposure to Greek billionaires, and I was quite bothered with how much of an ass Leandro came off as. It's probably something the author did on purpose so we can see how he's changed in the future, but still...a little too much there.

SUMMARY:
Heart Racer is such a short read that a person can't really write such a long review about it, so I'll just leave it off with: This book gets 4 stars from me. Review for Driven by Love, part 2 of Leandro and Bobby's story to come out real soon.
